July - August Events
It is safe to say things certainly get busier during the summer in Southwold. Visitors to the area can make the most of the beach and of course the Pier with many activities to keep the children entertained. There are lots of things to do and see in Southwold during the summer season and we have listed below some of our favourite events from Southwold and the surrounding area for visitors to enjoy.
Southwold Lighthouse Tours
Open on various dates from March - October 2018. The iconic Lighthouse in Southwold has tours taking place every summer - to see specific dates when you'll be able to take advantage of the incredible views visit the Southwold Lighthouse visitor website where you can find further details on times etc.
Latitude Festival 2018
12th - 15th July 2018
Fast becoming one of England’s favourite summer festivals, Latitude is returning to the beautiful Suffolk coastal area for its twelfth time. This fabulous, multi-arts festival and winner of last years 'Best Major Festival', will return to the beautiful Henham Park estate near Southwold in July 2018. Henstead Exotic Garden Open Day
2018 Dates TBC. Come along to Henstead Exotic Garden and discover this beautiful setting which was created just 10 years ago. Voted "Britains Best Garden 2015" by Alan Titchmarsh, you'll discover many exotic plants such as Echium Pininana, Eucalyptus etc. There are also guided tours available with the owner Andrew Brogan.
Southwold Summer Theatre 2018
Southwold Summer Theatre returns! Hosted at St Edmunds Hall in Southwold the theatre is one of the most popular events held in Southwold in the summer season.
Southwold Maize Maze 2018
Summer 2018 sees the return of Southwold Maize Maze - a giant puzzle of pathways within eight acres of maize. This fun-filled event is perfect for kids. A real brain-teaser, the maze will test your powers of deduction and navigation to the limit. Other activities include Go Karts, jumping pillows, pedal tractors and a picnic area.
Women on Wheels, Southwold
Women On Wheels events are mass participation female-only bike rides, that put a strong focus on the fun, friendly and inclusive aspects of cycling, usually raising money for a local charity. They are aimed at non-cyclists and existing cyclists alike, with routes of an achievable distance, and are open to all ages. Various prices for routes. The races will start and finish at the rugby club on Southwold common. Under 12's go free. This event is taking place on Sunday 22nd July 2018.
The Theatre Fete on Southwold Common
2018 Date TBC. Don't miss this years Theatre Fete on Southwold Common - this fete raises funds for the charity which supports the Southwold and Aldeburgh Summer Theatre. With a mix of stalls and plenty of family fun including bookshop, toyshop, tombola, bric-a-brac and a fabulous Grand Draw with prizes from local businesses to be won, we're sure this event will be popular with all.
Southwold Model Yacht Regatta 2018
2018 Dates TBC. Come down to the Model Boat Pond and join in the fun with Southwold's model yacht regatta of the summer season.
Uggeshall Country Teas
2018 Dates TBC The ever-popular Uggeshall Country Teas returns this summer. Friendly villagers will be present to welcome all and serve traditional home made scones, breads, Suffolk rusks and more, all topped with a delicious brew of tea or coffee. Southwold Model Railway Exhibition 2018
The 29th Railway Exhibition is being held at St Felix School in Reydon. There will be many demonstrations, a passenger carrying live steam train and tractor engine rides in the grounds, traders and railway and preservation societies.
Southwold Fine Art and Antiques Fair
Summer 2018 Date TBC. With over 50 dealers in the finest quality antique furniture along with ceramics, clocks, jewellery, silver, pictures etc – this Antiques Fair is sure to be popular. Hosted at St Felix School in Reydon.
Oulton Broad Gala Day
2018 Date TBC. Where: Nicholas Everitt Park. Time: 9.00am - 10.00pm. Bring all the family and discover Vander Wheel of Death! Other attractions include thrilling circus tricks from Dangerous Steve as well as the canine antics from the popular Waggy Tails Dog Agility Display Team, displays by the Totally Wicked School of Dance and Broadwing’s birds of prey.
The finale of the all-day entertainment is a spectacular firework display at 9.00pm fired from a pontoon on the Broads. With Larry Gray’s Funfair - as well as the usual wide range of stalls, food outlets and a beer tent all is set for a great day of family fun.
