Walberswick

Boasting a big beautiful beach backed by sandy dunes and surrounded by a thousand acres of heath and protected as an Area of Outstanding Beauty, Walberswick is a wonderful blend of coastal beauty and rural charm and is truly a gem on the Suffolk Coast. The River Blyth creates a natural boundary between this idyllic village and neighbouring Southwold and a footbridge connects these two charming holiday destinations.

The natural land and seascapes have inspired many artists through the years including leading impressionist Philip Wilson Steer as well as Charles Rennie Mackintosh who worked on his distinctive floral watercolours whilst in Walberswick in 1914. Rich in history, Walberswick was a prosperous port trading in fish, cheese, corn bacon and timber from the 13th century until the First World War.

Today this Suffolk village attracts many a celebrity from stage and screen who seek sanctuary in this superb coastal escape. It is also the perfect holiday destination where you are spoilt for choice for a beautiful place to stay. Ranging from large and luxurious houses, to chic and contemporary apartments or cool coastal cottages, there is something for everyone.

A pretty village green with independent shops, cafes, delicatessen, fishmonger, grocery store and not to mention two great pubs means that you needn’t go far while staying in Walberswick. If you do fancy a wander over to Southwold, the Bailey Bridge takes you over to the town’s harbour or during the summer months, hop on to the foot ferry rowing boat which is a charming way to travel between these two holiday hotspots and is a quirky alternative to arriving by road.
