Description

Intro

Nestled prettily beside the lesser-known green space of Skillman’s Hill, this one-of-a-kind cottage is filled with top-flight furnishings and first-class fittings; gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe its beauty both inside and out! With the Common, town centre and seafront all just a stroll away, this is a holiday home where the living is most definitely laid back and convivial – the owners have put heart and soul into the renovations here and we reckon every guest will fall in love with the results.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

Four first floor bedrooms share the same pastel colour palette and assure peaceful slumbers. Each has a fitted wardrobe so you can unpack and settle in properly, and there’s a selection of sleeping options: choose a room with a super-king size bed, a king-size, twin beds or bunk beds – the latter has a TV and DVD player so would be especially suitable for youngsters, perhaps. Washroom-wise, there’s both a lovely family bathroom and a separate shower room on this floor, each with feature tiling and heated towel rail, while below on the ground floor there’s a second shower room for the ultimate in queue-busting flexibility.

Cooking and dining

A spacious sitting room that splits effortlessly into two smaller lounges courtesy of bifold doors delivers style and comfort for all guests, but the true social hub at Hillside is to the rear of the property where you’ll find the open plan kitchen and dining area. Culinary delights can be created with ease here – even the most reluctant of cooks will be inspired by the Falcon cooker with its five-ring gas hob and large oven, two fridges, freezer, butler-style sink and Miele dishwasher. The contemporary styling of the kitchen’s spacious coloured cabinets and sleek flooring continues into the dining area where there’s a comfortable sofa and a large table with elbow room for all eight guests. If feasts in the fresh air are more your style, then move mealtime to the pretty front garden where there’s a private patio area complete with table and bench seating.

Outside

A prettily-planted garden hides behind Hillside’s brick-and-flint walls and provides a private sanctuary in which guests can enjoy unexpected peace and quiet so close to the seafront. Roadside parking is available nearby, the grassy green slope of Skillman’s Hill is just beyond the garden gate, and a choice of routes lead across the Common or along the beach to Southwold’s picturesque harbour.

Practicalities

The owners really have done all they can to make this the most family-friendly holiday home – there’s free WiFi, a travel cot and highchair and, in the sitting room, a TV, DVD player, Bose speaker, desk and decorative fireplace. The attention to detail continues into the hallway where you’ll find storage for shoes and coats, while a Miele washing machine in the utility room will make light work of any laundry requirements.
