Description

Intro

The very best of the Victorian era is complemented by every modern must-have in this elegant three-storey holiday home. A fusion of high ceilings, feature fireplaces and an exquisite choice of furnishings, it’s a real conversation piece yet comfortable and family-friendly.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

A ground floor cloakroom doubles up as utility space – complete with washing machine and tumble dryer – for the ultimate in convenience, while there’s a choice of bathrooms and shower rooms on the upper levels of this three-storey holiday home. On the first floor you’ll find a bathroom with overbath shower while on the second floor a further bathroom has an additional hand-held shower attachment over the bath – both rooms are bright, white and sanctuary-like in their simplicity. A striking modern black and white colour theme reigns in en suite shower room that’s part of the first floor master bedroom; further wow-factor comes courtesy of the super-king-size bed, feature fireplace and double doors leading onto a small balcony – open them up and awaken to the sounds of the seashore! Elsewhere on the first floor, there’s a pretty single-bedded room, plus another that has twin beds plus the possibility of another two mattresses for additions to the holiday party. And on the second floor, feature fireplaces add period detailing to two more rooms – one with twin beds, the other with a double and both with discreet furnishings that are sure to nurture a great night’s sleep.

Cooking and dining

Big, bold and beautiful, the combined kitchen and dining room here delivers true ‘heart of the home’ warmth and will be every cook’s dream. Creamy-coloured fittings and characterful furniture contrast with the strong colour palette chosen for the walls and cabinets, while a number of windows ensure all the key features are well illuminated. For cooking convenience, the large Rayburn oven is complemented by a five-ring gas hob, there’s a large fridge freezer for food and drink storage, and a dishwasher to make short work of the post-meal clean-ups. Dine companionably at the large pine table or, if the weather is favourable, move mealtimes into the garden where you’ll find a large table and chairs plus a barbecue.

Outside

If the beach and a beer are on your holiday to-do list, Victoria House will be right up your street – both the Sole Bay Inn and the seafront are but a short stroll from the doorstep! For your own piece of Southwold peace and quiet though, beat a retreat to the courtyard-style back garden – it’s fully equipped with furniture and a barbecue and, for friendly competition, a foldaway table tennis table.

Practicalities

There’s plenty of storage in each of the five bedrooms here, plus space to shed coats and shoes in the entrance porch, beyond which you’ll find ample space to spread out in both the front sitting room and the snug, each of which have woodburners to supplement the gas central heating for winter comfort. The snug has a large selection of games and jigsaws for some good old-fashioned fun, plus a TV with BT box for catch-up and Netflix, a BluRay DVD player and DVDs for more up-to-the-minute entertainment. Fast WiFi is provided along with towels and bedlinen and – for those holidaying with young children – we can offer a highchair and travel cot too. And if nine beds are not enough for your party, a further two mattresses are available for the twin room on the first floor – let us know whether you’ll need those when you book and we’ll make the necessary arrangements. You’re unlikely to need your car once you’ve unpacked, but there’s roadside parking outside the property so you can keep it close by.

Reviews

House was ideally situated for beach, promenade and pier. Three generations fitted in well, particularly with separate TV/ games room.

Mrs Kathleen G,

An excellent stay - the house has been fantastic, so close to the beach. We enjoyed cycling around the area and loved The Smokehouse at Walberswick, The Lord Nelson and Adnams Brewery tours...........
