The county of Suffolk is well known nationally for its pig farming, particularly since Jamie Oliver introduced us all to his friend Jimmy a few years back, who has subsequently developed his pig farm “Jimmy’s Farm” in Wherstead, Ipswich to become a hugely popular tourist destination.

A self-catering holiday in Suffolk would not be complete without sampling the best local pork, and what simpler way than cooking up some good old bangers, either on the barbeque or with creamy mash and onion gravy! The perfect opportunity to sample and buy the best bangers in the county is happening this weekend – ‘the Framlingham Sausagefest’

This annual foodie event takes place on Saturday 10th October in the charming town of Framlingham, and various local butchers will be battling it out for the coveted award of Framlingham Sausagefest champion!  There’s lots of activities for all the family from entertainers, to sausage making workshops, BBQ cooking workshops, and pizza making, not forgetting all the usual attractions that Framlingham has to offer.  (Framlingham is home to an impressive castle and intriguing historic buildings.  There’s lots of boutique shops to browse around, and of course, a fine selection of pubs and places to eat.

As we at So Southwold love to support our local suppliers, we’ll be cheering on local butchers Mills & Son this weekend, who will be fighting to retain their current title of Sausagefest champions. Mills & Son is a high class family butchers and delicatessen, just off the market place in Southwold, where there has been a butchers since 1634.  It also has an in-house bakery which produces a selection of mouth-watering pies and pasties (also ideal for a simple holiday meal, with some fresh steamed vegetables or a crisp salad).

So whether you’re enjoying a holiday in suffolk, or are a local looking for something different to do, where else would you want to be than Framlingham this week.  It’s where I will be!  Come on Mills & Sons!
