In conjunction with many events happening around the country to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, The Southwold Concert Series will be staging a commemorative concert on Saturday 10th May 2014.
Taking place in the beautiful St Edmund’s Church in Southwold, the programme for their WW1 tribute will feature Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, which was composed whilst he was being held in a German prisoner of war camp. This beautiful and haunting piece reflects themes around the search for reconciliation and peace during a time of conflict.
The programme also features works by Schubert, Bach and Berg which will be performed by some of the finest young musicians in the country including Cara Berridge and Ben Hancox from the Sacconi Quartet, pianist Alasdair Beatson and clarinetist Sarah Beaty.
