Southwold has an enviable programme of music and the arts throughout the holiday season and staff at So Southwold have compiled a list of some of their favourite events to go to:-

Jill Freud’s Theatre Company, ‘The Southwold Summer Theatre’ is well known for staging original and quirky plays in St Edmund’s Hall between July and August each year.  Usually booked out well in advance, past season’s performances have included Agatha Christie’s ‘Love from a Stranger’, ‘The Curse of Dracula’ and Thomas Hardy’s ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’.

For a glorious summer evening, there's no better place to be than at ‘Music on the Green’.  This is a free event that takes place on Southwold’s’ South Green on Saturday 27th July 2013 with live music, a BBQ and Pimms Tent.

Many classical music lovers flock to The Southwold Concert Series each year, which are performed in St Edmund’s Church, an acoustically fine, 15th century edifice in the centre of Southwold.  The series was founded in 2008 by composer and pianist Nathan Williamson. This year’s programme will play homage to Benjamin Britten in the year of the Suffolk composer’s Centenary Celebrations.

For popular music, Latitude Festival will again take place at the beautiful Henham Park Estate near Southwold from 18-21 July 2013. This year’s fantastic line-up includes Bloc Party, Maccabees, Foals, Jessie Ware ,Hot Chip, Kraftwerk  and many more chart-topping acts. In addition to an enviable programme of pop, classical, folk and dance music, Latitude features a fantastic literary and comedy arena, family friendly workshops, art installations and open-air performances by the Sadler’s Wells dance company.

The Fair on the Green is a popular Southwold event for bargain, vintage and antique hunters.  This year’s fair takes place on Sunday 4 August 2013 and will attract approximately 70 stallholders, plying an eclectic selection of antiques and collectables.

Westleton is a beautiful Suffolk village and is just a short drive away from Southwold.  It is well worth a visit, especially during August when you can experience the annual Westleton Barrel Fair – an event that has been running since 1951!

The first barrel race of the day, which will take place on Sunday 17 August 2013 this year, will be the traditional challenge between two village pubs: The White Horse and The Crown. Individual barrel and children's races will take place at regular intervals during the day, and there will also be live musical performances.
