Getting To Southwold

Here's our guide to getting to Southwold from all over the country in the car and by train.

By Road

From the South

Southwold is easily accessed from London and the South by road.  From the M25, take the A12 junction, south of Brentwood. Keep on the A12 passing Chelmsford and Colchester. Pass over the Orwell Bridge near Ipswich and stay on the A12 in the direction of Lowestoft. Pass Woodbridge, Yoxford and Darsham until you reach Blythburgh.  ¾ miles past Blythburgh, take the right hand turn signposted for Southwold. Southwold is approximately 4 miles from the junction with the A12.

From the North, Midlands, Cambridgeshire and Stansted Airport
Our Southwold holiday properties are easily accessed by road from the North, Midlands and Cambridgeshire.  Pick up the A14 to Ipswich, then follow the A12 route (via the Orwell Bridge), as detailed above (refer to directions from the South).

Alternatively pick the A14 (intersects with M11) and pass Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.  Look for Stowmarket and the junction for the A1120 for Yoxford. Stay on the A1120 (narrow and winding in places) for approximately 26 miles.  At Yoxford, turn left onto the A12. Stay on the A12 passing Darsham until you reach Blythburgh.  ¾ mile past Blythburgh, take the right hand turn signposted for Southwold.  Southwold is approximately 4 miles from the junction with the A12.

If you are coming from Stansted Airport, an alternative route is to take the A120, then at Marks Teyes pick up the north bound A12.  Stay on A12 past Yoxford and Darsham until you reach Blythburgh.  ¾ mile past Blythburgh, take the right hand turn signposted for Southwold.  Southwold is approximately 4 miles from the junction with the A12.
